From bronze to PRO-player

We interviewed one of the famous players in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS)
Kirill Kostiv known as “9impulse” in Apex Legends discipline, who has been successful throughout his short but memorable career in the “NAVI” organization which has many players from different esports disciplines. Kirril Kostiv was born in Belarus in 1999. He started playing Apex Legends as soon as it was released, from that point he has been passionate about this game.

Becoming the captain

In 2019 “NAVI” was trying to find the best players for their new team, and the choice was obvious Kirill Kostev became the captain of the team. With the new team success was around the corner as they just in a few months of becoming an Apex Legends “NAVI” team were so close to become a winner of Apex Legends Preseason Invitational one of the biggest tournaments with prize pool of 500000 dollars.

In the lower A-B tier competition, they were unstoppable, but after 2 years of playing in the team, “NAVI” decided that they, needed some changes, this is when the famous captain left the organization. Now Kirill Kostev has a new team, and keeps grinding the competitions one after another.

In game leader 9Impulse was playing «Wraith» character for most of the time, because the abilities to replace your team from one spot to another by using teleport skill, was crucual action and Kirill was one of the best at it. He saved his team so many times by making right descisions, that lead them to succes in many tournaments.

Kirill Kostev on his
PRO-career and advices to players

Were you aiming to become a pro, from the beginning of your career or you were playing just for fun?
I had a goal, little dreams, but I always had a backup plan outside of the games, but I always tried my best to improve everyday to become really successful.

Tell us about your feelings, when you and your team were in Krakow on the biggest tournament “Apex Legends Preseason Invitational” against the best players all around the world?
The feelings were amazing, but the conscious of that I was one of the best players, kicked in only later.
What kind of qualities and abilities you need to have in such a team based game?
You need to be communicative and know how to talk with people, a lot of things are based on communication. As a game leader I had to control my team’s rotation, leading the team to the best positions, take quick and right decisions in different situations.

What advice can you give to the beginning level pro-players or players who want to reach higher ranks?
Everything that I mentioned before and also a lot of practice.
What experience did you get from tournaments?
I always get a different experience, but most of them are positive.

How have constant practice and bootcamps changed your life?
Wellll… To be honest, I don’t even know. I guess nothing has changed.

What are your upcoming plans on the esports scene?
Win every possible tournament with new teammates: taskmast33r and sunset
